BALTIMORE -- The Cincinnati Bengals had given away a 15-point lead, were still in search of their first touchdown and seemed poised to absorb another devastating defeat in their personal House of Pain. Thats when receiver A.J. Green got into the huddle and told his teammates, "We got one play. Lets make this play." Green did more than just talk. He caught a 77-yard touchdown pass from Andy Dalton with 4:58 left to provide Cincinnati with a feel-good 23-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Green got behind cornerback Chykie Brown, who was pressed into a starting role for the injured Lardarius Webb. Brown got a hand on the ball, which popped from Greens grasp before he gathered it in. After putting a fake on safety Darian Stewart, Green trotted into the end zone. The subsequent 2-point conversion made it 23-16, and the Bengals held on. "Its big for the team, man," Green said. "Just taking that next step to being a great team. I think these games right here prepare us for going into the post-season. When were not scoring every play, when it comes down to making that play, I think that game will help us." Dalton went 25 for 38 for 301 yards to help the Bengals end a four-game losing streak in Baltimore. "We did exactly what we set out to do there today," Dalton said. "There are a lot of tough places to play in this league and this is certainly one of the toughest. It was the only place I had not won since joining the Bengals." The go-ahead score came just 48 seconds after Baltimore newcomer Steve Smith caught an 80-yard touchdown pass from Joe Flacco, who overcame a slow start to finish 35 for 62 for 345 yards and an interception. It was the longest touchdown throw of Flaccos career, but the offence as a whole sputtered in its first outing under co-ordinator Gary Kubiak. "We played just about as bad as you can in terms of just simple fundamental things," Flacco said. Following Greens score, Flacco took the Ravens to the Cincinnati 16 before he was sacked on third and fourth down, the last with 55 seconds left. "I knew I had to make a play to make the first down, and I just couldnt do it," Flacco said. Mike Nugent kicked five field goals to give the Bengals a 15-0 halftime lead. Baltimore cut it to 15-10 before Smith broke his pattern to go deep as Flacco scrambled out of the pocket. Smith hauled in a pass along the left sideline and shook off Adam "Pacman" Jones with his right arm before stepping into the end zone. "We had a little scramble drill. Joe told me to go so I went," Smith said. "He threw a great ball." Smith, who played 13 seasons with Carolina before signing as a free agent, finished with seven catches for 118 yards in his Ravens debut. Playing without starting running back Ray Rice, who began a two-game suspension for domestic violence, the Ravens mustered only 91 yards rushing. Starter Bernard Pierce, who gained 14 yards on six carries and lost a fumble, was overshadowed by Justin Forsett, who ran for 70 yards and a touchdown. Both teams were affected by injuries. Baltimore placed Webb on the inactive list with a back injury, and Dalton repeatedly picked on Brown. The Bengals lost Pro Bowl linebacker Vontaze Burfict to a concussion late in the second quarter, and tight end Tyler Eifert left in the first half with a right elbow injury. Flacco was booed by many in the sellout crowd after throwing an interception to end a promising third-quarter possession. On Baltimores next series, however, Flacco finally put together his first scoring drive of the season. Completing six of seven passes for 63 yards, he moved the Ravens 82 yards for a touchdown -- a 13-yard run by Forsett. Baltimores defence then produced its first three-and-out, and Flacco followed with a 14-play drive that produced a 38-yard field goal to make it 15-10 with 10:28 remaining. Nugent connected on field goals of 49, 22, 28, 46 and 38 yards before halftime, and Baltimores lone sustained drive ended horribly on the final play of the half. Down 15-0, the Ravens moved to the Cincinnati 15 with 8 seconds left. Flacco bounced around in the pocket, cut right as time expired and was sacked, ending Baltimores chance to at least get a field goal. NOTES: Jeromy Miles got Baltimores first blocked field goal since Kelly Gregg against Cincinnati on October 11, 2009. ... Dalton is 31-18 as a starter, the best in Bengals history for a QB with 10 or more starts. ... The loss stops Baltimores eight-game home opener winning streak, dating back to 2006. Hockey systems arent that much different. We made a couple of changes in our system and I thought they identified it and executed it.The 56-year-old Cameron had been waiting a long time for this opportunity. Despite the loss, he says he will cherish the memory of his first game. Its something Ive been chasing a long time so it was a terrific feeling, Cameron said. Much the way I thought it would be with the emotions and that, but I feel really, really humble to be able to say now I coach in the NHL.As much as the Senators would have liked to get Cameron his first win, they at least felt good about their effort.Nobody spoke of it, but we took it upon ourselves to understand you want to get him his first W, said Bobby Ryan. He hasnt come into an easy situation but hes done beautifully for the last couple days and run some good practices and I think theres a lot to build on as a unit going forward. An exciting third period culminated with Trevor Lewis winning goal at 4:02. Tanner Pearson added an empty-net goal to seal the victory.Matt Greene, Justin Williams and Anze Kopitar also scored for the Kings (15-9-5). Jake Muzzin had three assists, while Jonathan Quick made 32 saves.Ryan, Mark Stone and Jared Cowen scored for the Senators (11-12-5) as Craig Anderson stopped 31-of-35 shots.Trailing 2-1, the Senators got off to a solid start in the third period to tie the game, but in less than two minutes the Kings regained a two-goal lead. Ottawa came close to completing the comeback, but fell just short. With 1:21 remaining, Cowen got a shot through traffic that eluded Quick to make it 4-3, but the Kings made the most of an empty-net as Pearson picked up his 11th of the season.Cowen, who has had his share of struggles this season, looked at this game as a fresh start.Always feels good contributing in all parts of the game especially with a fight, an assist and a goal, said Cowen. Too bad we didnt come up with a win, but its nice for me to gget that and try to bring that more often.ddddddddddddIn the opening minutes of the third, Stone jumped on a David Legwand rebound and tied the game with a short-handed goal, but 36 seconds later Kopitar — who hadnt scored in ten games — was left all alone in front and beat Anderson.Muzzin gave the Senators full marks for doing their best to claw their way back into the game, but said the Kings were just as determined.A prime example was when they got their short-handed goal and we countered right away and got that one back, said Muzzin. That was big. They had momentum going their way and we kind of shifted it back into our hands so that was big for us.To come back with a goal right away was huge, Muzzin added.Just over a minute later, with Senators defencemen Chris Phillips and Eric Gryba sprawled on the ice, Lewis put one over Anderson. The Kings jumped out to a 2-0 second-period lead before the Senators were able to cut the lead in half on a goal by Ryan.Ryan, who is playing with a broken finger, dangled the puck past Brayden McNabb and then beat Quick off his backhand. The goal had the 17,284 on hand chanting Ryans name.It felt good to get the monkey off my back, admitted Ryan, who had gone scoreless in his last seven games. But when it goes for not it kind of gets forgotten and thats OK with me.Los Angeles made it 2-0 midway through the period as Williams, who appeared to be looking for a wide-open Marian Gaborik, had his shot go in off Cody Ceci.Greene opened the scoring at 1:47 of the second as his shot from just inside the blue-line made it through traffic. The play was reviewed but it was ruled that the shot deflected into the net in a legal fashion. The Senators got off to a good start despite the first period remaining scoreless. Ottawa outshot the Kings 14-5 and didnt allow Los Angeles to register its first shot until the halfway mark of the period.Chris Neil did not play the last two periods as he was sidelined with a knee injury. It appears the injury will keep Neil out for at least a week.Notes: D Marc Methot and D Patrick Wiercioch were healthy scratches, while LW Clarke MacArthur was sidelined with the flu. The Senators were without LW Milan Michalek (upper body, day-to-day). Los Angeles D Jamie McBain, C Andy Andreoff and C Jordan Nolan were healthy scratches. ' ' '
