LAKE FOREST, Ill. Joe Mauer Twins Jersey . -- The Chicago Bears agreed to a three-year contract with defensive end Willie Young and a one-year deal with receiver Domenik Hixon on Thursday. Young joins a defence that is getting a makeover after struggling in a big way last season. The Bears released eight-time Pro Bowl defensive end Julius Peppers this week and brought in defensive end Lamarr Houston from Oakland, linebacker Jordan Senn from Carolina and safeties Ryan Mundy (New York Giants) and M.D. Jennings (Green Bay). Now, they have two new starting ends in Young and Houston. "This is important for us to get a second defensive lineman, a quality starter, an opportunity for Willie to grow and for us to grow with him," general manager Phil Emery said on a conference call. "When we went into free agency we felt that if we could find a way to get two starting defensive linemen, we would have made forward progress. Weve been able to accomplish that." The 28-year old Young spent four years with Detroit and can play on the left or right side. He had 47 tackles, three sacks, five pass breakups and two fumble recoveries last season. He had discussions with Jacksonsville but wound up in Chicago, instead. "Having (linebacker Lance) Briggs here anchoring the middle, it goes a long ways, having that solid leadership starting from the middle and working our way out," Young said. "Im excited to be here. And Im looking forward to a very aggressive defence here in the making. And right now theres nothing to stop us other than ourselves." Hixon had seven catches for 55 yards with Carolina in 2013. He has experience returning kickoffs and punts but did neither for the Panthers. Emery said he will get an opportunity to do that with Devin Hester gone. He previously played for Denver (2006-07) and the New York Giants (2007-12). In Chicago, hell be reuniting with quarterback Jay Cutler and receiver Brandon Marshall, his teammates with the Broncos. Meanwhile, Emery said cornerback Charles Tillmans return remains "an ongoing process" and had no update on the free agent. He also said time is running short on defensive tackle Henry Melton to re-sign. Meltons been visiting other teams. The Bears are open to bringing him back, but their available cap space is shrinking. "The clocks ticking," Emery said. Melton was arrested and charged with assault and public intoxication following an altercation at a Dallas-area bar in December. His agent has said Melton did not start the incident. "I think thats been an ongoing issue in terms of that issue coming to conclusion," Emery said. "In terms of evaluating Henry the player, thats separate from that." Jonathan Schoop Jersey . Braden Calverts Winnipeg rink rallied to defeat Italy 8-7. After giving up three points in the second end, Calvert came back with a single, then stole two more points in the next two ends to tie it up at the fifth-end break. Jake Cave Jersey . Auld made 37 saves in a 5-3 loss to the Boston Bruins on Saturday. It was Ottawas first game without starter Anderson, who is out indefinitely after cutting his hand Wednesday night, and it was evident the team wasnt sure how to deal with the change in goal.MILWAUKEE - Gov. Scott Walker proposed a plan Tuesday that calls for Wisconsin to help build a new basketball arena for the Milwaukee Bucks with $220 million in bonds that would be funded by projected growth in income taxes from NBA players. The Republican governor said his Pay Their Way proposal would protect state taxpayers and keep the team in Milwaukee. A new arena in downtown Milwaukee could cost about $450 million to $500 million.New owners bought the team last April and have promised to contribute $150 million toward the new arena. Former owner and ex-U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl has promised $100 million of his own money to help replace the BMO Harris Bradley Center, which was built in 1988.Under what Walker called a first-of-its-kind plan, the more than $6.5 million thats collected from taxes on the salaries of the Bucks and visiting NBA players would continue to go to the states general fund. Walker said that figure is expected to grow due to rising salaries and revenue from the NBAs TV contracts, so any money above $6.5 million would be used to pay off the bond by 2046.I think its arguably the most fiscally conservative idea in the country for a professional sports team, Walker said at a Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce meeting. Were having them pay their own way. Its not coming out of revenues from anywhere else. Its not coming from new taxes. Its keeping the foundation we have today. The plan would be included in the state budget proposal to be submitted by the governor to the Legislature next week. The Bucks hope to settle on a site for a new home in the next month. Team president Peter Feigin thanked Walker for the plan. The governors support brings Wisconsin closer to creating a new state-of-the-art venue and entertaiinment destination that will become an economic catalyst for the entire state, Feigin said in a statement. Paul Molitor Jersey. The Bucks could leave Milwaukee in 2017 if there is no new arena — a move that would cost the state nearly $10 million per year in income tax collections alone, Walker said. The deadline is part of the agreement of last years team sale. The NBA could refund the money to the new owners and take possession of the team for a possible relocation.Thats not an idle threat. Thats just the facts, Walker said. I cant ignore the fact that if we do nothing, it is not a cost-neutral proposition.Another condition of the agreement would require the Bucks new owners to pay off the bonds if they sell the team.By asking the Milwaukee Bucks to pay their own way, we are protecting state taxpayers, Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said. However, its important to note that in order for the state to be a partner in this endeavour, we would expect the city and county to be part of the equation as well.Milwaukee Common Council President Michael J. Murphy was scheduled to meet with team officials on Wednesday to learn more about the proposal.Republicans control both the state Senate and Assembly, but some conservatives raised concerns about borrowing money to help the Bucks. Rep. John Nygren, a Republican co-chair of the budget-writing committee, said Walkers proposal was a starting point for discussion. The Legislature will debate the budget over the next several months, with a final vote likely sometime in June. The rebuilding Bucks were 22-22 going into Wednesday nights game in Miami. First-year coach Jason Kidd has turned Milwaukee into one of the leagues top defensive teams a year after a franchise-worst 15-win season. ' ' '
